NSPC Director Discusses Global AI Competition and Regulation with CNN Business

In his article this week, CNN Business reporter David Goldman explored U.S.-China AI competition and what global regulation might look like in the future. Goldman quoted research from UVA’s National Security Data and Policy Institute (NSDPI) on the CCP’s layered AI strategy in his analysis. He also sought an expert opinion from Dr. Phil Potter, director of both the NSDPI and the National Security Policy Center at UVA’s Batten School. “‘Beijing likely has its own deep concerns about AI’s potential to destabilize its social and political system,'” said Potter, a key reason why he believes “a spirit of cooperation may be in the best interests of both countries’ governments and industries.”
